What is a typical “evergreen” list of needs for shelters?

Every shelter is going to have its own specific set of needs. However, there are some needs that are common to almost all shelters – particularly shelters for women and victims of domestic violence. Those needs are:

  • Cleaning supplies (glass cleaner, toilet cleaner, laundry detergent, etc.)
  • Toiletries (tampons, pads, shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc.)
  • Paper supplies (paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, etc.)
  • Baby supplies (diapers, wipes, baby food, formula)
  • Non-perishable food supplies (canned goods, jar goods, dry goods)
  • Underwear (for women, girls and boys)
  • School supplies (paper, pencils, pens, crayons, glue sticks, erasers, you name it)

  1. hi, just read your article and want to do something also. I live in Apex but am in Raleigh quite a bit. Is there a way to drop something off to you. I know my way around state because my husband worked there for years. I love what your are doing. It shows how one person can make a difference and get so many more people involved.
